Just as children sometimes think that their parents’ instructions are a burden to them, so do God’s children think that His instructions are obstructive to their agendas. But the Bible says God’s Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Who knows the way better than the person who has passed through it like a billion times. God knows the end from the beginning and is eager to lead us to success. This week, we encourage all christians to follow our Father, who promises to guide us with His Eye.

Most people don’t speak animals, so it is always amazing to see how animals not only monitor, fight for, but also control their offspring. They are able to make their young ones obey their guidance and instructions, else they could go missing or be killed by carnivores in the jungles. Older animals may not speak audibly, but they certainly have signs that speak louder than voices.

When it comes to human beings, not only do we take care of our children, we also want them to be obedient to our instructions, but not for obedient’s sake; the instructions are not meant to dominate, but to guide in love, bearing in mind that, not only do we have responsibilities to do so, but we have experienced life in ways that the children have never yet imagined. No parent is interested in just dishing out commands or instructions if the instructions don’t shape character. On the contrary, parents pray that their instructions become assets for their children. In Proverbs chapter 6 verses 20 - 23, the Bible says:

My son, keep your father's command, And do not forsake the law of your mother. Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them around your neck. When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you. For the commandment is a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life.

As born again christians, we are children of our Father in Heaven, and as we want our children to be obedient to our instructions and guidance, much more does our God want us to be obedient to His. And why is that? The reason is that God has so many promises for us as His children, but if we refuse to listen to Him or to follow His instructions, then we have created necessary conditions for His promises to not work for us. Look at what the Bible says in Psalm 32 verses 8 - 9:

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you.

The Lord promises to teach us the way we should go, and guide us with His Eye. However, He warns that we should not be like the horse or the mule which lack understanding and need to be controlled with bit and bridle, else they will not pay attention to their owners. We can only enjoy the promises of God if we cooperate with Him. There’s a path He has created for each of us, and if we abandon the path, we are likely to get lost or be spiritually (and sometimes physically) killed. It is our God who has seen the end from the beginning, who can tell us where the dangerous corners are, or where there are large potholes that can cause fatal accidents. It is the Lord who can accurately discern the results of some of the actions we take, and if He is trying to guide us and we refuse to listen or obey, He is unhappy, because we are making it impossible for Him to deliver on His promises.

Question: do you know that God has beautiful promises for you and wants to work with you to achieve results everyday? We may think that God is too busy or too far away to pay attention to our activities  and welfare here on earth, but it’s quite the opposite. He says that He will guide us with His Eye. God does not want us to beat about the bush, but to be focused and walk toward the target. If we can surrender ourselves to Him and stay under His control, we are sure to smile at destruction and famine; we are certain to succeed where others are failing, and we are bound to live lives that can only be imagined by people around us. Are you operating under His control?

What to Do?

Stop gambling. Ask God to guide you with His Eye everyday.
