Blessed Be My Rock!

Psalm 18:1-3, 46-49

Because children have seen how their dads protect them and won’t let anything happen to them, they grow up (up to a certain age) believing that their dads can do anything. We’ve heard examples of children arguing among their peers how big their dad’s farms are, or how big their dad’s houses are, or how nice their dad’s cars are, etcetera, all in attempts to tell their peers that their dad’s possessions are superior to their peers’ dad’s. And why not? If you grow up seeing or experiencing just one environment, you do not believe that there’s something better. This is why people often say that their countries are the best places in the world.

One person who truly came to this conclusion in the real sense and without a doubt, was David. Living among enemies and witnessing the entire military might of Israel as it pursued him with no other aim but to kill him because of Saul’s jealousy of the military success of David, he had no choice than to run to the only safe place he knew. He had his own military men and advisers, but they were no match to the military of the country, of course. David had a hidden Military that other people did not know: God, and His angels, who constantly shielded and protected him, without which he would be long dead. Look at what David wrote in verse 2 of Psalm 18:

The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Observe how many words David used to describe God in this single verse of scripture. He must have run short of words; else he could have continued! David was so sure he could not survive the jealousy of Saul, but for God’s protection. At some point, God even weakened the protection around Saul, the head of state, allowing David to kill him if he wanted, but David would have no hand in the death of the anointed of God. If he were a power-drunk person, a military coup would have taken place with this opportunity.

Like David, there may be times when you just feel like you are surrounded by enemies and people who actively sought your downfall. There could be times when it is difficult to even know who to turn to, as friends metamorphose into enemies, and the secret discussions of those who claim to love you are revealed. At such times, you may become so shocked and so depressed that you pray for the end of the world to come. But thanks be to God, this is not the time to throw in the towel or allow depression to end your life like those who don’t know God. This is the time to put your full trust in the only source of protection and deliverance. This is the time to say Lord I surrender because You only can handle this situation. This is the time to go back to the Word of God and read it over and over again, to assure yourself that you are in safe Hands, because you are.

There is no true Friend like Jesus. There is no Savior like our Lord. There is no protection that can ever compete with that which our God offers. We cannot and must not surrender to the ways of the world when we actually belong to a different Kingdom. It does not matter in what situation we find ourselves; we must always come back to the Word of God and remind ourselves who we are: loved, saved, shielded, protected, blessed, promoted, directed, enabled, defended, and much more. That’s who we are!

PLEASE ACT NOW:

If you are yet to give your life to Christ, you do not have a covenant with God and His promises do not apply to you. To come under these promises, please surrender your life to Christ today, by praying this prayer:

Lord I know that I am a sinner and I am unable to save myself. I am sorry for my sins and I pray that you please forgive me. I am aware that Your Son Jesus died for my sins and I accept Him as my Lord and savior. I surrender my life unto you from this moment. Please take control of my entire being and help me to be obedient to your Word, going forward. Thank you, Lord, for hearing me. I have prayed in Jesus’ name. Amen.

If you prayed the foregoing prayer, you have just been born again. Please find a Bible believing church in your area and ask to see the pastor. Let him or her know that you have just given your life to Christ and s/he will guide you on next steps in your journey as a child of God. The Lord bless you!
