Driven By The Wind?

When children spend time to build a flying object, like a paper airplane, they can only hope that when they throw it into the sky, it does not fly to the neighbor’s backyard where they have no means of retrieving it. Thank God that it’s just a paper plane, because there are heavier objects that are driven by the wind, and God forbids that they land on someone’s head or the roof of a house, or the windshield of a parked or moving car. Objects driven by the wind can sometimes be very dangerous. In some regions of the world where hurricanes and tornadoes are a yearly occurrence, the devastation that is left behind leave people stranded for years, some having lost all of their lifelong assets.

The wind is a good thing and can be harnessed to do great things, but unless it is guided or soft, it is one of the most dangerous agents in the air. The same is a life that is purposeless and directionless, not only will that life achieve nothing, it could be a danger to itself and to others. In Genesis chapter 4 when God handed down His verdict to Can after he killed his brother Abel, He told Cain that he would be a restless wonderer on the earth. Cain exclaimed “My punishment is more than I can bear.” He was right; Cain received a lifetime curse (a restless and aimless wonderer) for his crime of murder.

As children of God, one of the things we don’t want to be this year is a flying object. To be guideless is to be destinationless (permit my English). When Joseph had his dreams, he was too young to understand what they meant. All he was able to do was recall and recount those dreams to his parents and brothers. When he was sold to Egypt, he thought it was a bad coincidence and jealousy from his brothers. When he was imprisoned, he thought also that it was just bad luck. When his brothers finally came to Egypt to buy food and to bow down to him in accordance with his dream, he realized that his life was a purpose and not an accident.

In Romans chapter 12 verses 1 and 2, the Bible says:

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

From my observations and interactions with people as well as the stories of other people that I have listened to, most people are happier and settled when their lives are driven by a purpose. I wrote in the past that if you believe that a young lady is too worldly and too reckless and partying till late everyday, wait until the lady is married and gives birth to her first child. The moment she realizes that a human being depends almost entirely on her to survive, you will notice a sharp transformation that will wow the people around her.

Everybody wants his or her life to be meaningful and you know what, that’s exactly what God wants for us also. In 2023, one of our goals should be to know exactly how God wants to use us. It may not come through an audible voice or through a dramatic revelation. However, the place to start is to read your Bible and pray. If nothing jumps out at you, then you should take the initiative to do something in the church. It could be to join the ushers or to assist in the parking lot or join the choir (if you can sing) or teach in the Sunday School or join the evangelism team or visitation team or any other ministry. If you are happy with what you are doing and your team is happy with your work, then please continue unless and until God says otherwise.

If all we have done since we were born again was to go to church every Sunday morning and put our Bibles in the cabinets for the remaining days of the week, then I suggest that we are due for a change this year. Let us yield our lives to God as living sacrifices holy and pleasing before Him. Let 2023 be a turning point so when we reach the end of the year we can look back and give Him all the glory for the great things He would have done in us and through us. Say goodbye to the wind this year. Let your life be guided. The reward is very fulfilling. God bless you!

 PLEASE ACT NOW:
If you are yet to give your life to Christ, you do not have a covenant with God and His promises do not apply to you. To come under these promises, please surrender your life to Christ today, by praying this prayer:
Lord I know that I am a sinner and I am unable to save myself. I am sorry for my sins and I pray that you please forgive me. I am aware that Your Son Jesus died for my sins and I accept Him as my Lord and savior. I surrender my life unto you from this moment. Please take control of my entire being and help me to be obedient to your Word, going forward. Thank you, Lord, for hearing me. I have prayed in Jesus’ name. Amen.
If you prayed the foregoing prayer, you have just been born again. Please find a Bible believing church in your area and ask to see the pastor. Let him or her know that you have just given your life to Christ and s/he will guide you on next steps in your journey as a child of God. The Lord bless you!
