Psalms 119:129-136

As someone who grew up in an environment where working electricity was an exception, I know what it is like to live in darkness. Each time the electric power authority (mistakenly) turned up our light, we would scream with joy that we could see, turn up our television sets to see what was going on in the country, turn up our fans and air conditioners to cool ourselves in the heat, quickly run our boreholes to pump enough water into the overhead tanks to be sure there was water to use when the authorities discovered their errors and turn off the lights again. Our slang was to never expect electricity to be available, so we learned to cope in the dark.

While the foregoing depicts physical or virtual darkness, there is another type of darkness which started in recent decades but is fast growing and promising to consume the world. We now live in the world where the Word of God is being ‘canceled’ verse by verse. The days of Noah are a child’s play when compared to our current world. The Bible says male and female created He them, but we now give birth to children and use plural pronouns for them, because we believe God is incapable of making the right gender decisions. We even have churches that are pastored by atheists and religious agnostics. Everyday brings something new that shocks us, but then the next day brings even worse things.

In the midst of all of these, we need to remain sane and continue to decipher between what God is saying and what the world is doing. Not only is this global picture important, but more importantly, we need to be guided daily by the Spirit of God, so our decisions are in line and our confusions are erased. And what better ways are there to do these than to look into the infallible Words of God. In Psalms 119 verse 130, the Bible says:

The entrance of Your Words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.

Just as we scream for joy when our electric power is turned on to erase the darkness around us, so is the Word of God made to give us joy when we allow it to eliminate any and every confusion that we may witness in our daily lives and in our global world. The Bible says we shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free (John 8:32).

There is no better time to lean on the Word of God than now. This world is going down, albeit gradually, as the Word of God has predicted. In Luke 18:8, Jesus asked a rhetorical question if in His second coming He would find faith on earth. That is how bad things will be when the trumpet eventually sounds. At this moment we probably have broken every record of filth and unrighteousness recorded in the Bible, but we are far from done. Our God has given us far more mercy than people in the Bible ever received, and yet, we keep pushing the envelope.

Please Lord, let Your Word enter into every situation of our lives in 2023 and beyond. Let it be the source of clarity for us, let it keep us sane. Let Your Word penetrate into the depths of our governance and let our leaders hear it and their decisions governed by it. We are all in this wrecking ship that is called the world, but please Lord, keep your children safe and let Your Word constantly point us to You and show us the escape route so our lots are not counted among the crowd headed for destruction. When we make decisions, let them be in accordance with Your plan and purpose for us and let us, Your children, continue to shine in the midst of this tick darkness. Please Lord, do not withdraw Your mercy and kindness toward us; we all need You, like never before. Thank you, Lord, for in Jesus’ Mighty Name we pray. Amen.

Happy New Year! Let the Word of God guide you and you will not miss your way to sanity and success this year. Go ahead and flourish, it’s your turn.

 PLEASE ACT NOW:
If you are yet to give your life to Christ, you do not have a covenant with God and His promises do not apply to you. To come under these promises, please surrender your life to Christ today, by praying this prayer:
Lord I know that I am a sinner and I am unable to save myself. I am sorry for my sins and I pray that you please forgive me. I am aware that Your Son Jesus died for my sins and I accept Him as my Lord and savior. I surrender my life unto you from this moment. Please take control of my entire being and help me to be obedient to your Word, going forward. Thank you, Lord, for hearing me. I have prayed in Jesus’ name. Amen.
If you prayed the foregoing prayer, you have just been born again. Please find a Bible believing church in your area and ask to see the pastor. Let him or her know that you have just given your life to Christ and s/he will guide you on next steps in your journey as a child of God. The Lord bless you!
