Overcomer by Birth

1 John 5:4-5

It is often said that the offspring of a lion is a lion. And even when a lion has been in the company of sheep or giraffes all its life, the moment it discovers that it is a lion, it starts to behave as one. The reason why God structured procreation by kind is to avoid confusion. You cannot see a goat and be confused if its parents are cats. The moment you see an animal, you know which kind it belongs to. Even human beings are easily recognized based on their races. If you see a black person, you immediately suspect that he or she if African, and brown people are generally believed to be predominantly Asians.

An adage says it’s the person who gave back to someone that he or she resembles. So, in the first letter of John, chapter 5, and verses 4 and 5, it’s no surprise that John credits the victory of God’s Children to the fact that we are born of God:

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

We may all have been born originally by our earthly parents, but our second birth in Christ basically changed our DNA. In the list of features that a God-born person should have, the ability to overcome is one of them. In fact, we overcome by default. We do not have to fight the battle, because in the gospel of John, chapter 16 verse 33, Jesus assured His disciples that He already overcame, and this is another confirmation of the promise of God through Moses in Exodus chapter 14 verse 14.

If you feel that the promises of God are just promises, you may need to read what happened when three kingdoms rose against Jehoshaphat and Judah in 2 Chronicles chapter 20. The combined army were very clearly more powerful than what Judah could confront, so Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, had no choice than to run to God. God heard his prayers and spoke through Jahaziel, a Levite, in verses 15 to 17:

And he said, "Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the LORD to you: 'Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God's. Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!' Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you."

You will not need to fight in this battle,” God told Jehoshaphat, “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!” if you read the entire chapter, you will see what happened to the trio of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir.

Are you in similar battles right now that is very overwhelming for you? It’s time to talk to God then and remind Him of the victory that He gave to Judah in 2 Chronicles chapter 20. Also remind Him of the various promises made regarding victory that our Lord Jesus Christ already won for us. He fully conquered the world and handed the victory over to us. So, don’t suffer in silence. If you are born of God, victory is already in your new DNA, and it should not lie dormant when you need it. You don’t need to wait for the battle to end before you declare victory. As soon as you sense any battle, go ahead, and declare victory upfront. It’s your heritage.

PLEASE ACT NOW:

If you are yet to give your life to Christ, you do not have a covenant with God and His promises do not apply to you. To come under these promises, please surrender your life to Christ today, by praying this prayer:

Lord I know that I am a sinner and I am unable to save myself. I am sorry for my sins and I pray that you please forgive me. I am aware that Your Son Jesus died for my sins and I accept Him as my Lord and savior. I surrender my life unto you from this moment. Please take control of my entire being and help me to be obedient to your Word, going forward. Thank you, Lord, for hearing me. I have prayed in Jesus’ name. Amen.

If you prayed the foregoing prayer, you have just been born again. Please find a Bible believing church in your area and ask to see the pastor. Let him or her know that you have just given your life to Christ and s/he will guide you on next steps in your journey as a child of God. The Lord bless you!
