The Foundation of God

2 Timothy 2:19-21

Human beings have little knowledge. We go to school, and we study courses and develop careers, but there’s a lot that we do not know. Psychology is a scientific course that was created and developed to study the mind, but unknown to the developers, the mind is not science. When dealing with the mind, you cannot multiply A and B to arrive at AB. Your methods may be telling you that someone is thinking along line C, but he or she may actually be on line Z. The fact that we are not able to scientifically read the minds of others is one reason the world is a bit sane, but it is also the same reason why evil plans escape detection. Human beings are flawed, so don’t be fooled by people thinking they know what’s on your mind.

Unlike humans, our God is perfect. He not only knows and sees what’s going on in our world today, He sees it all at once. He knows the intents of the mind and the plans that no one has revealed to anyone yet. This is why people who think they can deceive God only make a fool of themselves. When someone has committed a sin and decides to hide it from God, who is the person fooling? A song writer says you cannot hide it from God; you may cover your sin so that no one may know, but you cannot hide it from God. Because how do we expect that the God who created the mind does not know what’s on it?

In our churches today, many deceive themselves. They are fervent church goers, serious workers in the vineyard, but what they do outside of the church remains a question. Sometimes what we see in the movies might be a little fictional, but we should remember that movies are largely a reflection of societal practices. So when we see what God’s children are capable of in the movies, we might just be seeing a revelation. However, when what occurs outside of the church may be bad enough, people are horrified when they see or hear of what occurs in secret inside of the church. Wouldn’t you nearly faint when you hear that an usher in the house of God has been busy collecting the offering and making his or her bank accounts fat, and has from this built several houses, and counting? We should not even begin to think of what happens between opposite sexes, even among leaders.

Paul was writing both from experience and from foresight when he wrote the following to Timothy, in his second letter, and the second chapter. In verses 19 – 21, he wrote:

Nevertheless, the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity." But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.

We may come to church in thousands, and sometimes in millions, but we must never think that we are lost in the crowd. There is a reason why God created each person uniquely, with unique fingerprints and eyeballs and other DNA attributes. The Lord knows those who are His. We may be the loudest in the church when the pastor says praise the Lord. We may be the first to get to the church on meeting days and we may never miss a meeting. We may be the biggest financial contributors to the work of God, and we may be the biggest givers to the poor in the community, so that if we are accused of something, the whole community would come out in our defense. Yet, the foundation of God stands, having this seal: the Lord knows those who are His.

Let us not for one minute think that God does not see what we are doing. Let us not think that He does not care, just because we have been doing it for long and there have been no consequences. Let us not conclude that the grace of God will continue indefinitely when we remain unrepentant. Let us not assume that we are experts in what we do and can always dribble our ways through. An adage says every day is for the thief and one day is for the owner.

This is not a message of condemnation. After all, even the woman caught in the very act of adultery was not condemned by Jesus. Rather, this is a call to repentance, as Jesus told the woman, neither do I condemn you; go, and sin no more. As it is written in 2 Corinthians 6:2:

For He says: "In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you." Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

I believe that God is saying to His children, this is the day to say, not anymore, and put all unrighteousness behind us. This is the day of the prodigal son. This is the day to surrender. This is the day to ask for forgiveness and turn our backs to our wicked pasts. Will His children yield to the call?

PLEASE ACT NOW:

If you are yet to give your life to Christ, you do not have a covenant with God and His promises do not apply to you. To come under these promises, please surrender your life to Christ today, by praying this prayer:

Lord I know that I am a sinner and I am unable to save myself. I am sorry for my sins and I pray that you please forgive me. I am aware that Your Son Jesus died for my sins and I accept Him as my Lord and savior. I surrender my life unto you from this moment. Please take control of my entire being and help me to be obedient to your Word, going forward. Thank you, Lord, for hearing me. I have prayed in Jesus’ name. Amen.

If you prayed the foregoing prayer, you have just been born again. Please find a Bible believing church in your area and ask to see the pastor. Let him or her know that you have just given your life to Christ and s/he will guide you on next steps in your journey as a child of God. The Lord bless you!
