Driving for two straight days can be challenging and sometimes confusing, let alone doing it for 365 days. We do not understand our days enough and certainly cannot predict what will happen in the future without relying on and following the God who created the future. As we embark on a new year, we need our God to serve as our GPS and provide directions for us from January to December. Are you ready to follow His lead?

The first time I drove for 22 hours and more than 2,000 kilometres through a completely unknown terrain before arriving at my destination, I couldn’t stop imagining how I could have done it without a GPS. Without it, I could imagine getting to a junction and getting confused, not knowing which side to turn to, since I had no idea which states or cities led to my destination. I could imagine me getting lost and being told to drive back for hundreds of kilometres to make the correct turn, and I could see how many days it would have taken me to get to where I was going, assuming that I did not become frustrated and try to drive back to my origin.
In the distant past when there was no GPS, I drove short distances, 200, 350 kilometres, asking questions at each junction or in each village or town I reached. Sometimes I was given the wrong direction and someone ahead would tell me to drive back to take a different turn. It was challenging and sometimes frustrating. Not knowing where you are heading to, and not traveling with the person who knows the road is tedious and sometimes scary. It is even scarier if you have your family with you. You may not mind getting lost alone, but getting lost with your spouse and children has never appeared on anyone’s new year resolution.
2025 has come and gone, and none of us would have made it through, had the Lord not helped us. There has been days, weeks, months and seasons, and weather changes that the meteorologists even got wrong, let alone people who could hardly predict what they would eat for dinner. A new year is upon us, and how could anyone confidently say what would happen in the year except the God who created it? The Lord knows every month, week, day, hour and minute of the year, and is willing and eager to GPS us through the year if we rely on Him. In Isaiah chapter 30 verse 21, the Lord says:
Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.
This is what the GPS does for us when we drive, and our God is promising us the same, in a far more important journey than driving - the journey of life. We all depend on pilots to get us to our destinations when we fly thousands of miles without seeing land or knowing which direction the aircraft is traveling. How much more should we trust the Creator of the universe to get us to our destinations. In Psalm 32 verse 8, our God says:
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.
In Exodus 33:15, Moses pleaded with the Lord not to let them depart from Mount Sinai if His presence would not go with them. Moses understood the importance of the Lord going with him and with the children of Israel through the wilderness as they otherwise would not know which direction to go. So should we, God’s children insist on the presence of God with us every day and every year, as we do not know the way to go without Him guiding us.
The road ahead is challenging, there are paths we do not know, dangerous corners we may not see on our own, and potholes that may slow us down if we do not have our Father telling us which direction to go and which speed limits to adhere to. God who sees the end from the beginning is the only God who will see us through the new year with excellent success. But we must trust in Him and follow Him. We must read our Bibles to know His will, spend time with Him in prayers to ask for direction, and obey His guidance to ensure we do not miss the way. Are you ready to be guided through the road ahead?
If you are yet to give your life to Jesus, you will miss out from His guidance in the new year. The Lord only guides His own children, just as we are responsible for guiding our own children. You cannot ask God for guidance if you have not surrendered to His lordship. The way to be sure of where you are going in 2026 is to say Lord, please forgive me of my sins, I surrender my life to you and I will obey you and follow your guidance going forward. Thank you for accepting me as your child. If you pray this prayer sincerely, then you have just become a child of God and I congratulate and welcome you into His Kingdom.
What to Do?
The road ahead is challenging. Surrender to the only God who knows where you are going and can guide you through the journey.
