The Things That Accompany Salvation 2

Henry Omotayo

Ephesians 1:3-6

Last week, we started looking at Paul’s writing to the Hebrews, in chapter 6 verses 1 – 9, where the apostle indicated that he would like to see a move away from the discussions of the elementary principles of Christ, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, etcetera, and instead, focusing on better things concerning them, especially things that accompanied salvation. We decided that we would look at some of the many things that accompany our salvation through Christ, and we started by looking at Freedom from Guilt.

This week we will look at Adoption. In Ephesians chapter 1 verses 4 – 6, the Bible says:

Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

Adoption is a very powerful thing. When you adopt, you take ownership. This is not only powerful, but also very emotional. This is the reason couples who have delayed childbearing are not so eager to adopt. They take their time, think about it, seek counseling, and pray about it before they make the move. During the discussions, they ask questions, go back home to talk about it, plan how to take care of the adopted child in ways that are not only acceptable in the eyes of the law, but also acceptable to God. Though there is no blood relationship between the parents and adopted child, yet there is a very strong chord that will begin to tie them in a bond that is just as powerful as though it’s their own biological child.

Yes indeed, this is the power behind our adoption as God’s sons and daughters. The Bible says that God chose us before the foundation of the world, and that He predestined us to adoption as sons. Being a child in a home gives you full rights, provided, of course, that you follow the rules of the home. You are never afraid to walk into the home. You have your own keys. You can open any doors in the house (it is, of course, recommended that you knock, just as Jesus taught us to do in Matthew 7:7-8). There is no hesitation to grab any food and eat or use the home phone or other facilities in the house.

Freedom is a powerful thing! I have heard some children tell their parents, “This is my father’s house, I can responsibly do what I wish; if you are not happy, you can go to your own father’s house.” This is not recommended, but it speaks to the boldness that a son or daughter possesses. Unfortunately, God’s children only practice this level of freedom and boldness in earthly homes, but not in their Heavenly Father’s Home. Do you know that you are as free with your Father in Heaven as you are with your earthly father? The rules of your earthly father are to guide and regulate your behavior and are always for your good. We mostly don’t realize this fact until we grow older and have our own children. Similarly, the rules of our Heavenly Father are entirely for our good. Just look at Jeremiah 29 verse 11.

Do you know that you are a beloved, adopted son or daughter of the Almighty God? If so, what are you doing about it? Are you taking full advantage that your Father is the all-powerful, unlimited God? Are you walking into His presence with the boldness that a son or daughter possesses, or are you busy wasting your rights and privileges? The children of earthly royals are respected and honored everywhere they go. How about you, the child of the Most High God? Do people recognize you when you walk on the street or appear in occasions? Do you command respect? Is the devil afraid of you, as a child of the living God? Do demons tremble as they did when they saw Jesus in Matthew 8:29? I have a suggestion for you: don’t throw away your privileges, those are the things that accompany salvation; you have full rights, use them!

PLEASE ACT NOW:

If you are yet to give your life to Christ, you do not have a covenant with God and His promises do not apply to you. To come under these promises, please surrender your life to Christ today, by praying this prayer:

Lord I know that I am a sinner and I am unable to save myself. I am sorry for my sins and I pray that you please forgive me. I am aware that Your Son Jesus died for my sins and I accept Him as my Lord and savior. I surrender my life unto you from this moment. Please take control of my entire being and help me to be obedient to your Word, going forward. Thank you, Lord, for hearing me. I have prayed in Jesus’ name. Amen.

If you prayed the foregoing prayer, you have just been born again. Please find a Bible believing church in your area and ask to see the pastor. Let him or her know that you have just given your life to Christ and s/he will guide you on next steps in your journey as a child of God. The Lord bless you!
