Thus Far The Lord Has Helped Us

1 Samuel 7:12

Message No. 0520 | Twitter @GodandUs

As God’s children, all our achievements are ascribed to Him. There is nothing we can do without Him. Every crown should be brought to the Feet of Jesus. He, it is, who gives us direction and goes before us to perfect our ways. In 1 Chronicles 17:16, when King David considered all the goodness and promises of the Lord to him, he could not keep quiet. The Bible says:

Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: "Who am I, LORD God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?

I believe that this is the kind of reflection that each of us should have as we sit down to consider the goodness of God on our lives and our families. There is nothing that we are that He did not make us, nor is there anything that we have, that He did not give us. We have no power of our own.

In 1 Samuel chapter 7, Samuel brought the children of Israel together to consider the goodness of God over them and how He had delivered them from their enemies in the past, especially from the Philistines, their arch enemies. In verse 12, the Bible says:

Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

An adage says that if we do not know how to think, we will not know how to thank. It is important that, as God’s children, we take time to take stock of all that He has accomplished in us and through us, and to thank Him for being there for us and for seeing us through all of our challenges, including challenges we encounter when we are doing His work.

Ten years ago, I started what I believed the Lord was leading me to do, to write His Words and send them out to readers worldwide, once a week. Until one starts this kind of venture, it might be difficult to comprehend what it takes to do this consistently, without missing a week. Some weeks I struggled, and it looked as though I would not write for those weeks. I would spend several hours, and nothing was coming up in my brain and I would feel like going to sleep. Finally, I would write something and feel like I hadn’t done justice to the task for that week. What has surprised me each time I had such struggles was the number of responses I got from readers, thanking God for blessing them through those particular writings. This tells me consistently that this job is not about me and is not about what I know. It’s about what God wants to communicate and what He wants to do.

Many of you readers received the initial writings in September of 2010. Many joined years later. However, irrespective of when you joined, I need you to know that you are part of the reason that these writings have continued. You have been reading and providing feedback and you have been praying for God’s inspiration and guidance for each week’s episode. I’ll like to thank you all and you must know that, in God’s books, you are integral to the team and you have special rewards reserved for you in God’s Kingdom. As seen in Galatians 6:9,

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up

Let us all thank God for what He is doing through this platform and let us please broadcast this to our family and friends so they too can subscribe on the new website www.wisdom-speaks.ca. Let us continue to work together and to see even greater success as we start the next decade on September 13. Kindly keep this venture in prayers throughout this week. If you are able to fast on any of the days, your efforts will not go unnoticed by our great rewarder. Thank you, have a wonderful week and God bless you!

 PLEASE ACT NOW:
If you are yet to give your life to Christ, you do not have a covenant with God and His promises do not apply to you. To come under these promises, please surrender your life to Christ today, by praying this prayer:
Lord I know that I am a sinner and I am unable to save myself. I am sorry for my sins and I pray that you please forgive me. I am aware that Your Son Jesus died for my sins and I accept Him as my Lord and savior. I surrender my life unto you from this moment. Please take control of my entire being and help me to be obedient to your Word, going forward. Thank you, Lord, for hearing me. I have prayed in Jesus’ name. Amen.
If you prayed the foregoing prayer, you have just been born again. Please find a Bible believing church in your area and ask to see the pastor. Let him or her know that you have just given your life to Christ and s/he will guide you on next steps in your journey as a child of God. The Lord bless you!
