The Words of some men may be meaningless because of their reputations, but the Words of the living God are orders and commands. This week, we examine what happens when God speaks. God has excellent Words for believers, but His Words for sinners are fearful. On which side do you belong? May the Lord bless you as you read.

When Balaam said to Balak in Numbers 23:19, that God is not a man that He should lie, this is not just lip talk. God does not guess, He declares. When He speaks, His Words are orders. He does not suggest, He states. We all know how today, people have watered down His communications and pronouncements, when everyone says, God spoke to me, or God told me. While it is true that God speaks to people, the proof, people say, is in the pudding. If someone has said more than a few times that God spoke to them, and none of it came to pass, it will be difficult to believe that God spoke to them.

In Jeremiah 33:20-21, the Word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying:

"Thus says the LORD: 'If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that there will not be day and night in their season, then My covenant may also be broken with David My servant, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and with the Levites, the priests, My ministers.

In comparing His pronouncements with the inevitability of day and night, God is providing an iron-clad assurance that His pronouncements will not be altered. God doesn’t report to anyone and does not need permission to say or do anything. He does as He pleases, and commands as He wishes. God cannot be misheard or misunderstood. He speaks with clarity and certainty. This is why David says in Psalm 62:11, God has spoken once, and I have heard twice.

So, with the God whose Word is this firm and precise, do human beings stand a chance before Him? Well, the answer depends on which side you are. In Isaiah chapter 3 verses 10-11, the Bible says:

"Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him, For the reward of his hands shall be given him.

If a person’s doings are good, he or she will eat of the good rewards. You will be in God’s best books, and His pronouncements toward you will, without doubts, bring you peace, breakthrough, divine health and favors. The devil and his agents can do nothing to you, because God will rise to your defense. You shall be like a tree planted by the riverside, bringing forth its fruits in its season, and whatsoever you do shall prosper, because the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.

If you have committed sins, the moment you are in repentance, your situation changes, and the Lord can raise up even unbelievers to favor you or set you free from any unhealthy situation. After Israel had been taken captive by the Babylonians for decades, the moment they repented, God raised up a heathen king, Cyrus, and empowered him to set His children free to go back to their land. There is no length to which He cannot go to set you free. In Isaiah 43:4, He promised, I will give men for you, and people for your life.

If, however, you are on the other side of righteousness, then the Bible does not have a lot of good news for you. In Psalm 1:4-6, the Bible says:

The ungodly are not so but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore, the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Each person has a decision to make: serve God and live, or serve the devil and die. This life is a battle, and there is no demilitarized zone. Who you worship determines your destiny. In Isaiah 54:17, the Lord says no weapon formed against you shall prosper. And in Proverbs 19:21, the Bible says the counsel of the Lord shall stand. To those who don’t believe, I am sorry for you, because your stance will not stop the plans and pronouncements of God from coming to pass. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but not a jot or tittle of God’s Words will pass without being fulfilled. Why? It’s because the mouth of the Lord has spoken them.

What to Do?

It is a terrible thing to fall into the Hands of the living God. Repent, because you don’t want His pronouncements against sinners to come to pass against you.
