This week we are asking the question, why do some children of God run to the devil when they have serious challenges? Has the devil ever provided any genuine solution to anyone? Why do we compromise our faith in our offices, schools, neighbourhoods and other places? Should God’s children serve the Lord but occasionally make side trips to satan? God bless you as you read!

Kindly share this message with friends and family by forwarding to them the email or the link to the blog. We write every week. Recently I’ve heard citizens of a particular country criticizing an elected official of another country simply because the official says thing they don’t like. The official has parental citizenship of the criticizing country, but this did not stop her from saying sharp words about the country. When I watch clips of people criticizing her, I always wonder, what do these people want from her? Do they want her to not serve the people who elected her? Were they expecting that she would do their bidding simply because here parents were born in their country or even that she had spent some years in that country when growing up? Why would they expect her to be elected by one country but turn around and work for another? I jokingly ask, is it possible to be employed by Apple but be working for Microsoft?

In Romans chapter 6 verse 16, the Bible says:

Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?

Many believers claim that they are God’s children and that God is their Master, but when they face challenges, they often find themselves looking for solution from somewhere else. This search for answers in places other than God always brings christians to situations where they are in opposition to God and His instructions. When God is pointing to one direction, it is not strange for the devil to point to another; isn’t that what we should expect? If we think that the devil can point us in the right direction, why do we need God to be our Father?

Imagine a situation where you are employed by one organization, but you are stressed by the directives of another. Will you not be fired by your employer? If the manager of another company is dishing out instructions to you and stressing you out, will you not tell him or her, ‘Go to hell’ (excuse the language), ‘I don’t report to you!’ If this is the case, is this not what we should be telling the devil? Isn’t this the example that Jesus gave us when he told the devil, ‘Get behind me satan!’

In Matthew chapter 6 verse 24, the Bible says:

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

To have a complete breakaway in sin and the devil, we need to realize that we do not work for satan. We need to stand our ground when instructions contradict the constitution of our Lord. The three Hebrew boys told king Nebuchadnezzar, we will not worship your god, nor bow down to the image of gold that you have set up, even if our God decides to not deliver us.

When the devil begins to dish out instructions to you, the best reaction is to tell him stop, I do not serve you, I do not worship you, I do not take instructions from you, and I do not report to you. We must learn to stop satan right at the gate. If you give him an inch, he will take a mile. As long as we live, temptations will continue to come, but we must continue to resist. We must continue to refuse all situations and circumstances that will put us in compromising positions. We must continue to flee all appearances of evil, as instructed in 1 Thessalonians 5:22. We are all work in progress, but we live in freedom, and a lot depends on us and our dispositions and decisions. If we decide we will live holy, we surely will.

What to Do?

If Jesus does not solve our problems, neither can the devil. Tell satan to get lost!
