I recall the slogan of a manufacturer of overhead water tanks many years ago as they advertised on radio and television. They wanted people to know how perfect they were in making their tanks, so they creatively wrote a slogan saying, “If the quality isn’t in it, our logo isn’t on it.” They used different methods to prove that their tanks were the best.
Well, if human beings can be that confident of the quality of the things they make, how about God who made the makers of those things. In Ecclesiastes chapter 3 verse 14, the Bible says:
I know that whatever God does, It shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken from it. God does it, that men should fear before Him.
This means that whatsoever God makes is not only accurate (as we saw last week), but it is perfect also. Nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken from it. However, in the creation of man, it goes even deeper than that, because Psalm 139 verses 13-15 says of the careful attention that God paid to the creation of man:
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Why was God so careful in creating man? It’s because in Genesis chapter 1 verses 27-28, the Bible says:
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
God put His Imago Dei (the image of God) in man. This obviously means that man had to be perfectly designed and perfectly made. He gave dominion over all other of His creations to man, making him His representative on earth. This was why He gave Adam complete freedom to name the animals, and whatever Adam called them was what God ratified. In Luke 10:19, the Lord gave us power to tread upon serpents and upon scorpions, and upon all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt us. And in Matthew 16:19, He gave us the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatsoever we bind or loose on earth will be bound or loosed in heaven.
With God’s DNA embedded in us, man is the potent bearer of God’s power here on earth, but do we really know that? We sing everyday that we have been made in the image of God, but do we live as if we have? Does our character show that we are God’s likeness? Do we exhibit the characteristics of the Maker of heaven and earth, or do we go about living in fear as though we are afraid of the devil?
If the child of a king follows his father to an occasion and starts to behave like a slave, the organizers of that occasion (who are not aware who he is) will shove him to the same position as with other slaves, and if the king’s slave goes to the occasion and carries himself like dignitaries and pretends to be the child of the king, he will be well seated among the royals. The way we behave is the way people will deal with us. So, going forward, let us carry ourselves like the descendants of the King of Glory. We’re joint heirs with our Lord Jesus Christ. We’re royals, and we need to start behaving as such.
What to Do?
The Holy Spirit lives in us, and when we relate with people in our daily activities, we need to bear this in mind and negotiate matters with confidence. After all, if the child of a king goes on an errand, he knows that the full power of his father is with him.
