There are times when God’s children feel trapped and think there is no way out. The devil rages always, but God’s children must remain calm, because even when we see imminent danger, yet, our God proves that He does not sleep. This week, we encourage children of God to stand firm, because in the nick of time, our God shows up to our defence.

God’s commitment to protecting His children is nothing but amazing. There are times when something could have happened that would destroy a child of God, and the Holy Spirit would do something that changes it all. In 1 Samuel chapter 23, Saul, who had spent lots of capital pursuing David with the sole intention of killing him, finally got his opportunity. David was trapped and there was no way of escape from Saul and the army of Israel. Put correctly, he was already a dead man, because Saul was sure to kill him. He must have been saying his last prayers. Then an urgent message came to Saul, saying, hurry and come, for the Philistines have raided the land. This was all God needed to do, and Saul immediately broke off his pursuit of David to go and engage the Philistines.

In Esther chapter 3, the Bible says that Haman, king Ahasuerus’ right hand man, hated Mordecai the Jew so much that he wanted him dead. He didn’t stop at him alone, his hatred was so strong that he wanted all the Jews murdered in one day, all because Mordecai, Esther’s uncle, would not bow down to greet him whenever he came to the king’s palace. He had already hatched his plans when Esther invited the king and him to a banquet. This was an incredible honour, but he was not satisfied as long as he continued to see Mordecai at the gate of the palace. One night after the first banquet with queen Esther, he got so bitter of Mordecai that he cooked up a plan with his wife and friends to hang him on a gallows the next morning.

When Haman got to the palace the next day, intending to receive accent from the king to carry out his murderous plan, queen Esther overtook him by informing the king that Haman already concluded plans to kill his (the king’s) wife, and her people. This enraged the king so much that the whole table turned against the murderer, and he eventually became the murdered. This was not all, Esther and Mordecai received the king’s authority to destroy all their enemies in all regions of his kingdom.

In the book of Isaiah, chapter 41, the Bible makes clear of God’s plan to protect His own:

Isaiah 41:10-13 NKJV

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' "Behold, all those who were incensed against you Shall be ashamed and disgraced; They shall be as nothing, And those who strive with you shall perish. You shall seek them and not find them- Those who contended with you. Those who war against you Shall be as nothing, As a nonexistent thing. For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, 'Fear not, I will help you.'

Decades ago, I was in my house minding my own business when one policeman came and said that a neighbour had accused me of killing his animal. I was completely shocked as I had no idea what he was talking about. But it didn’t matter how much I was trying to let him know he got the wrong person, he insisted that I must follow him to their station and there I could make a statement. I got so angry of being wrongly accused that I told him even his commissioner could not make me to come to their station. The guy left, and few minutes later, he came with a truckload of policemen to arrest me. I was so sure that they would beat the hell out of me and probably break my bones. Then, as soon as they started coming down from their truck, one of our church members who was an inspector of police and senior in rank to all the guys who came to arrest me was just returning home. When he saw the police vehicle and uniformed people coming down, he asked them what was happening. They pointed to me and I explained to him what had transpired. He, of course knew, that I was incapable of doing what I was accused of, so he spoke to them and they went back to their station.

The enemy has plans against God’s people, but in the nick of time, the Lord delivers His own. In Isaiah 59 verse 19, the Bible says when the enemy comes like a flood, the spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him. If you are currently trapped or encompassed and you already think that you do not have a way of escape, please get rid of your fear by standing upon the Word of God. He never fails, even at the last minute. The devil may think he has already won, but he has no idea what the Holy Spirit has in plan. Rest assured that the God who protects you does not sleep. He already won the battle on your behalf. Just continue to thank and praise Him, because He will not fail to show up for your defence.

What to Do?

Fear not, you will not need to fight in this battle (2 Chronicles 20:17).
