Hearing from God is training all christians should aspire to have. If we are able to hear from Him regularly, our lives will be so much easier. This writing assures us that God does not leave His children in the dark; it is us who do not understand His methods.

Most people don’t like gambling. Decisions are often based on knowledge or plans. When we check the ‘Yes’ box, it is because we know something or we expect something. God’s children are trained to consult God before making major decisions. We are trained to ask who to marry, where to relocate to, what job to accept, especially if we have options, where to live, and etcetera. But many of God’s children don’t know when God is speaking. This leads to situations where we take decisions by faith (which is not a bad thing) or wait for long periods expecting God to speak to us audibly.
Thankfully, God has never stopped speaking or leading His own. Sometimes He uses methods that are visible to the eye, and at other times He uses methods that are visible only in the spirit. In Exodus chapter 13, when the children of Israel were leaving Egypt, the Bible says that God led them in an unmistakable way that left no one in doubt that He was in charge:
Exodus 13:20-22 NKJV
So they took their journey from Succoth and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness. And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.
Also, when Jesus was born, the wise men who came to worship Him from the east followed a special, visible star that led them to the exact location of His birth and stopped, so they were sure that they had arrived at the right place. How easy would it have been if God worked in this manner all the time, but He doesn’t. He is in-programmable. His sovereign nature means that He decides how to communicate with each person and on which occasion, and we must learn to walk with Him to understand His prompts.
God speaks to His children in various ways, including visible, through dreams or trances, some say they see an angel, through people or signs, and most commonly, through His Word, the Bible. Sometimes when we read a familiar verse and we see a new interpretation of the verse, it’s usually God showing us something. He also speaks by us listening to messages (teaching or preaching). Many people may be listening to preaching in a Sunday morning service, and somebody may suddenly have an inspiration to act on the message, or suddenly have an answer to something they have been praying for.
It’s vital for God’s children to learn to walk with Him, through prayers, studying of His Word, listening in silence, and many more. So, that answer that you have been expecting might actually have been delivered to you, but you are not able to decode the answer. Ask God actively to help you to understand Him, because, no matter what we think, one thing God does not do is leave His children in the dark.
What to Do?
Are you in the dark? Ask God to open your eyes so you can see and understand what He is saying.
