The Day of The Lord

Isaiah 13:9-13

Message No. 0673 | Twitter @GodandUs | www.wisdom-speaks.ca

It is sad to know that not all professing Christians believe that this world, as we know it, will end one day. I think the problem is that each time we preach the message of the end of the world, we make it look urgent and sometimes imminent, but this is exactly the message we need the world to know – it is urgent, and it might be imminent. Unfortunately, since we have preached for so long and nothing has happened yet, even those who go to church lose their expectations of this day or even the reality of it.

Yet, not many things are as sure as the future day when the Lord Jesus Christ will return to take His people with Him. This is the reason why, writing to the Thessalonians in his first letter and the fifth chapter, Paul wrote in verse 2:

For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.

People forget that the message the devil so desperately wants to preach is that all is well and there is no danger, and this world will continue as we know it forever and that the world has existed for millions of years, and it will continue for eternity. So, when Christians say otherwise, they laugh us to scorn and sentence us to the province of foolishness and hallucination. This is one of the reasons why some ushers are so bold to collect offerings in the church and take the offering baskets to their vehicles and empty the money into their trunks instead of taking them to the church office for counting. This is the reason why some church officials ask for donations from members for church building and rather than use the funds to build the church, they use them to finish their personal houses. If these people believe that a day is coming and it could be imminent, when Christ will return and take His own home, I do not believe that they will be so bold to steal in the very place where the Owner is looking at them.

I am not about to tell anyone that Christ will return tomorrow, because I do not have any Bible verse to back it up. However, one thing I can say clearly is that He will come back, and not even our unbelief can stop Him. We may think all is good now, but the day of reckoning will surely come. We may go to bed every day and wake up to plan what we will do in the next 100 years but let us not forget that this is not entirely our decision. This was the mistake made by the rich fool in Luke 12:13-21. On the very day he stepped back and looked at his wealth and was planning how to store it and enjoy it for the decades to come, the Owner of his life called for it and his goods were inherited by those who did not work for it.

The Bible says what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul (Mark 8:36). For some, their wealth and comfort on this earth has completely blinded their eyes to the existence of the supreme being called God. They do not want to hear you mention the name. Yet, in 1 Thessalonians 5:3, the Bible says:

For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.

Are you one of those who think we are joking when we talk of the day of the Lord? Please have a rethink because this day is not a work of fiction. The Bible talks of it repeatedly both in the Old and New Testaments. In Isaiah chapter 13 verses 9 and 11, the Bible says:

See, the day of the Lord is coming —a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger— to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.

I have seen a couple who, during an argument, dared a neighbor to shoot them, and the neighbor entered his house, brought out his gun and killed the couple. If it is this dangerous to dare a neighbor, then you should know that daring the God of all flesh is not a wise strategy. The only way to escape the wrath of God is to surrender your life to Him before Christ comes or before you breathe your last breath. As you know, you cannot predict when any of these will happen. This is the reason we preach that tomorrow may be too late, so the best way to escape is to surrender now. Have you surrendered yet?

 PLEASE ACT NOW:
If you are yet to give your life to Christ, you do not have a covenant with God and His promises do not apply to you. To come under these promises, please surrender your life to Christ today, by praying this prayer:
Lord I know that I am a sinner and I am unable to save myself. I am sorry for my sins and I pray that you please forgive me. I am aware that Your Son Jesus died for my sins and I accept Him as my Lord and savior. I surrender my life unto you from this moment. Please take control of my entire being and help me to be obedient to your Word, going forward. Thank you, Lord, for hearing me. I have prayed in Jesus’ name. Amen.
If you prayed the foregoing prayer, you have just been born again. Please find a Bible believing church in your area and ask to see the pastor. Let him or her know that you have just given your life to Christ and s/he will guide you on next steps in your journey as a child of God. The Lord bless you!
